About Tandoori Dishes - The Titillating and Luscious

The world knows about the Indian
food mainly by the “Curry” and “Tandoori” dishes.  These two are the mascot of delectable Indian
Recipes across nations. It is not remarkable that the Indian Curry and Indian
Tandoor are the face of Indian non-vegetarian food worldwide. The most well
known dishes that are prepared in the Tandoor are “Chicken Tandoori” and the
traditional Indian bread the Naan.

Basically a Tandoor is like an
oven that is bell shaped that is set into the earth and is fired with a wood or
charcoal. It reaches temperatures of 480 °C (900 °F). When chicken is cooked in
this, it results in the exterior becoming crispy while the inside remains
juicily succulent. It is because of its typical shape that it can reach the
temperatures, which a normal oven can never attain.

The invention of ‘Chicken
Tandoori’ is attributed to a man named Kundan Lal Gujral who owned a restaurant
in undivided India in 1920. He tried cooking chicken in traditional tandoor,
which was used by locals to cook their daily bread the “Naan”. After
independence this dish was regular among most high profile government dinners
and thus started getting international fame.

The distinct taste of chicken
Tandoori comes from the way chicken is pre-prepared before cooking in tandoor.
It is soaked in a yogurt with an assortment of spices that include cumin seeds,
coriander seeds, ginger and garlic powder, turmeric powder with cayenne pepper
and salt etc. This is then cooked in tandoor with minimal oil.

The other derivative dishes of
chicken tandoori are chicken tikka masala and butter chicken
(which is tandoori chicken chopped and cooked in smooth red thick gravy). With
the rising popularity of these delicacies across the continents, many other
innovative and tasty recipes were created by chefs of international repute.

The best part of tandoori dishes
is that they are delicious and tasty while also very healthy as it hardly uses
any butter or oil. Many restaurants offer you an assortment of Tandoori food
Recipes which are very well loved by Indian as well as the local people in the
East bay area. Here you can find kebabs, seafood as well as veggie recipes that
are also cooked in tandoor.
